Planning a summer vacation by the Baltic Sea can be quite a challenge for many. Tourists often wonder if the weather will be nice, what the water temperature will be, and where it's worth staying to enjoy attractions while also relaxing. Summer by the Baltic Sea is a time that can provide many unforgettable moments. However, the key to a successful holiday is good preparation. The Baltic Sea hides many attractions worth getting to know before coming to this place.

Why is it worth going to the Baltic Sea in summer?

The Polish coast is gaining popularity year by year and is increasingly visited by tourists from both Poland and other countries. During the holiday months, it becomes one of the most popular spots in the entire country. The main reason for its tremendous popularity is the picturesque landscape and sandy beaches, which stretch for kilometers and are a fantastic place to relax. They are perfect for anyone who loves carefreeness surrounded by water.

The Baltic offers a somewhat milder climate than southern countries. Average air temperatures in July and August hover around 22–26°C. The water reaches 18–21°C. This allows for swimming, especially in sheltered spots. Additionally, the increasingly better tourist infrastructure, developed accommodation base, and local attractions significantly diversify the time even on less sunny days, which means you never have to worry about boredom by the Baltic Sea.

What can you do by the sea in summer?

Summer relaxation by the Baltic Sea primarily involves sunbathing and swimming. However, it is worth noting that staying in the region offers many more activities regardless of the weather. Here are some proven ways to spend time by the Polish sea:

  • Walks – a morning stroll on the beach is an excellent way to start the day. Fresh, iodine-rich air benefits the respiratory system and overall immunity.
  • Water sports – many resorts offer equipment rentals for windsurfing, kayaking, or paddleboarding. This is a good option for active people who want to combine relaxation with physical activity.
  • Visiting lighthouses and museums – numerous such sites attract history lovers and those who enjoy beautiful views.
  • Cycling – around the sea, you can use many trails leading through forests, cliffs, and dunes.
  • Tasting local delicacies – fresh fish straight from the boat, waffles with fruit, and artisanal ice cream are just some seaside classics worth trying.
  • Trips to national parks and nature reserves – Mewia Łacha Reserve and Kormoranów Reserve are just two of many places worth visiting to see the Baltic from a completely different perspective.

At Bursztynowe Resort & Spa, you also have access to a range of additional amenities such as outdoor and indoor pools and jacuzzis, a gym, saunas (dry, steam, infrared), a tepidarium, a salt cave, and facilities for children (an outdoor playground, an indoor climbing area, and a game room with consoles).

What to bring to the Baltic Sea in summer?

When planning summer holidays by the Polish sea, it is important to remember basic items that significantly affect comfort. Sunscreen is an absolute must – the sun by the Baltic can be deceptive, especially on windy days when its intensity can be masked. Sunglasses and a head covering are also useful to protect your eyes and skin from excessive radiation. Don't forget about comfortable footwear. Walking on sandy beaches, forest trails, and coastal dunes requires shoes that support your feet well and don't tire you even during several hours of hiking.

It is worth noting that even if the days are expected to be hot, when packing your suitcase, you should be prepared for occasional cloudiness, cool mornings, and evenings. Summer by the Baltic is warm, but the wind causes the temperature felt in the evenings to be significantly lower than during the day. Therefore, it is best to additionally pack lighter sweaters or windproof jackets.

Where to go to the Baltic Sea in summer?

Among numerous seaside towns, Stegna is worth highlighting. It is a relatively quiet but well-organized place for a summer holiday. It is located on the Vistula Spit and provides easy access to the beach as well as beautiful infrastructure suitable for families, couples, or those seeking relaxation. The beach itself is very wide and distinguished by fine sand. The entry into the sea is very gentle here, which will be appreciated by families with small children.

Stegna does not have many hotels or noisy promenades typical of popular resorts, so even at the peak of the season, you can find peaceful spots to rest. At the same time, there is no shortage of attractions. Besides interesting museums, there are bike trails nearby, and local gastronomy points offer delicious fish and regional dishes perfect for seaside cuisine lovers. The town also has excellent road connections with the Tricity and Elbląg, allowing for day trips without the need to change accommodation.

If you are planning a holiday in this charming part of the Vistula Spit, we invite you to our hotel in Stegna. The facility is just a few minutes' walk from the beach, making it an ideal base for both swimming enthusiasts and active holidaymakers. Comfortable conditions, proximity to nature, and a peaceful atmosphere promote true relaxation.

The best time for holidays by the Baltic Sea

The season by the Baltic usually lasts from mid-June to the end of September. Choosing the optimal period depends on the tourist's preferences. Some primarily seek peace and affordable costs, others want the peak season with a full range of attractions and events. Each month offers something different, so it is worth adapting your holiday dates to your preferences.

  • June – is an ideal time for those who want to avoid the largest number of tourists. Children don’t have holidays yet, so the beaches and promenades are a bit quieter. Accommodation prices are much lower than in July and August, and many attractions are already open.
  • July – is the peak of the tourist season. Most open-air events, festivals, and events organized by local cultural centers take place in this month. However, expect a larger number of tourists and higher prices. At the same time, it is the time of the best weather and very long days.
  • August – the tourist season is still ongoing, but traffic starts to decrease noticeably towards the end of the month. You can still enjoy summer attractions, although the atmosphere becomes less intense. Prices begin to fall, giving tourists many opportunities to save.
  • September – is an ideal month for those who value peace and moderate temperatures. Although the days are shorter, the weather can be very pleasant, especially during the first half of the month. The sea is often warmer than in June. Most beaches are almost empty, and accommodation is available at much lower prices.

Sea and air temperature during the summer season by the Baltic Sea

During the holiday months, thermal conditions by the Baltic are excellent for beach relaxation and sea bathing. The water in the Baltic warms up gradually. The later in the season, the warmer the surface layers are.

  • June – the average water temperature ranges from 14 up to even 17°C. The air should already be pleasantly warm, although the water does not yet favor longer swims. The warmest waters are definitely in the Gdańsk Bay and around the Vistula Spit.
  • July – the water reaches 18–20°C, allowing for regular swims, especially in shallow bays. Air temperatures in July are the most stable throughout the season.
  • August – is the month when the water should be the warmest – its temperature reaches up to 21–22°C in sheltered spots. In the second half of the month, temperatures may start to slowly decrease, but conditions for swimming and sightseeing remain very good.
  • September – the average water temperature is about 16–17°C, and during the first half of the month can reach even 18–19°C, especially in sheltered bays. Air temperature usually stays around 17–19°C.

Summary

Holidays by the Baltic Sea are a proven choice for those seeking rest in the country. In summer, the Polish coast offers everything needed for a successful holiday: sandy beaches, good food, tourist infrastructure, and many attractions, even on less sunny days. By choosing quieter locations like Stegna, you can combine relaxation with active recreation and enjoy the seaside atmosphere away from the crowds. With good organization and proper preparation, a holiday at the Baltic Sea can be as satisfying as foreign trips.
