Planning a holiday trip to the Polish seaside, it's worth considering Stegna. It is a charming town that can be easily reached by car or bus from almost any major city in the country. Thanks to a well-developed network of bus connections, the town is easily accessible to tourists. Although traveling by train requires transfers and is not possible without using buses — it can also be an interesting travel option to Stegna by the sea.
How can you get to Stegna?
Stegna is one of the most popular seaside towns. This fact makes getting there relatively easy. The developed infrastructure in the town itself and its surroundings allows quick travel to its center from any city in Poland. Using your own car, even from the most distant corner of the country, you can get here in about 10 hours.
While traveling by your own vehicle, navigation can be used, but when it comes to public transport, explanations are needed. Public transportation is one of the most economical options for traveling to Stegna. Bus lines and private carriers offer connections to this town from most large cities in Poland.
You can easily get here from the following towns:
- Gdańsk;
- Elbląg;
- Olsztyn;
- Warsaw.
Are you traveling to Stegna from Gdańsk, Malbork, or nearby areas? As part of our services, we offer transportation by van for up to 7 people from these locations.
How to get to Stegna by train?
Traveling by train to Stegna, you should keep in mind that direct railway connections exist only from nearby towns. This is due to the fact that while trains do reach the town itself, they are narrow-gauge Żuławy Railway trains. Therefore, other locomotives and carriages are not compatible with the narrow-gauge track.
So, when traveling to this unique seaside town by regular train, you will need to use other transport as well. To enter Stegna by train, you must get to places where the narrow-gauge railway starts. The optimal option seems to be Nowy Dwór Gdański, which can be easily reached by bus from Elbląg or Gdańsk. From these two towns, you can easily get almost anywhere in the country via PKP lines.
Bus travel
Traveling by bus is a much simpler option. Also here, traveling from remote towns, a transfer may be required. However, upon arriving at the main station in Gdańsk or Elbląg, you will easily find a direct connection right to Stegna. Ticket prices usually do not exceed 25 PLN per adult, making this option one of the most economical.
How to get to Stegna from Gdańsk?
For travelers from Gdańsk, there is the possibility to get to the seaside town by PKS bus or using private carriers.
There are buses running from the PKS station in Gdańsk that stop in the center of Stegna itself. The travel time by this mode of transport is less than 2 hours. To use it, at the station look for line 870. When boarding the vehicle, buy a bus ticket to Stegna, sit comfortably, and enjoy the charming coastal towns you will pass along the way.
The second option, already mentioned, is to get to Nowy Dwór Gdański from the PKS station in Gdańsk. From this town depart trains of the Żuławy Railway to Stegna. This method requires a transfer but is highly recommended personally. The narrow-gauge railway ride itself can provide unique experiences.
Getting to Stegna from Elbląg
If you want to travel from Elbląg to Stegna, travelers can use transportation by PKS buses. They run from the bus station in Elbląg (al. Tysiąclecia). At the station, look for the Elbląg-Krynica Morska bus. Traveling on it for about an hour (20 stops), you will arrive directly at the center of Stegna. The ticket price is about 25 PLN, making it one of the more economical options.
Getting to Stegna from Olsztyn
It is also possible to get to the center of Stegna from the bus station in Olsztyn. The travel time in this case is longer compared to Elbląg and takes about 2.5 hours. The ticket price also rises accordingly and is usually slightly above 30 PLN. When at the station in Olsztyn, look for the Olsztyn bus connection Olsztyn D.A.-Krynica Morska. Traveling it for 6 stops, you will reach the seaside town center.
Getting to Stegna from Warsaw
Travel from Warsaw to Stegna is primarily enabled by Flixbus. However, it mainly operates in the season, during which several connections from various parts of the capital can be found daily. The costs for such a trip start from 100 PLN, and the travel time is about 5 hours.
A good travel option from the capital may also be traveling by train to Stegna. However, as mentioned earlier, not directly to Stegna itself. It is worth noting that it is definitely faster to get by train to Gdańsk and then directly to the sea using buses. This option may be the only choice for those traveling from the capital outside the season when there are not many direct connections to popular seaside towns.
Other travel options
For travelers from more distant places, a practical solution is to reach Gdańsk. The capital of Pomerania is well connected with the rest of the country. From there, you can already buy a direct ticket to Stegna.
For those looking for more economical or flexible travel options, it is worth considering using services such as BlaBlaCar. This is a popular platform for shared rides, where you can find a ride in any direction often for a much lower price than traditional transportation.
For the most adventurous travelers, although more demanding, hitchhiking is an option. Although this form of travel requires greater flexibility and openness to unexpected situations, it can be an unforgettable experience. Especially during the summer months when tourist traffic is higher and it is easier to find someone willing to give a ride. Stegna by the sea, in turn, is an ideal town to end the journey.
Summary
Getting to Stegna is possible from many cities in Poland, but the simplest and most commonly chosen method for those living in more distant towns is to travel to Gdańsk, from where you can get directly to the resort itself. Bus connections from the capital of Pomerania are regular and frequent, making Stegna easily accessible to tourists seeking the charm of the Polish coast.
