The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1681-83 on the site of a burnt 15th century Gothic temple, from which only the tower, organ, altar furnishings and a bell from the Thirteen Years’ War survived.
Particularly noteworthy are the 1872 model ship suspended from the ceiling, the 1666 baptismal font and 1687 pulpit, and the unique paintings on the 450 sq. ft. canvas-covered ceiling.
Former Mennonite villages divided by the river Szkarpawa – unique complexes of architectural monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved. In Drewnica there is a milling windmill “koźlak” (1718), Dutch homesteads and burghers’ houses. In Zulawy several arcaded houses have been preserved, and near the village a powerful sluice Gdansk Head, which connects the Vistula River with the Szkarpawa River ending its course in the Vistula Lagoon, still operates.
At the mouth of the Vistula River to the Baltic, there is an ornithological reserve “Mewia Łacha” – a bird sanctuary of international rank (Natura 2000 area) and a place where a number of interesting plant species can be found. This is a beautiful area diversified with ponds and diverse vegetation, where many rare species of birds have made their nests. There are colonies of seagulls, plovers and pale-fronted birds, nesting colonies of terns. You can also meet white heron, black stork and cranes.
Here you can see a 150-year-old stand of beech trees in their natural habitat.
One of Europe’s largest breeding colonies of the black cormorant.
To see a very interesting collection of yantar.
Just 2 km from Stegna is the Stutthof Museum, a former Nazi concentration camp.
During the vacations, an undoubted attraction is a narrow-gauge train ride. The route leads from the Right Bank of the Vistula River in Mikoszewo to Sztutowo.
About 20 km from Stegna is Krynica Morska with its lighthouse and the highest dune (49, 5 m high). From here in the summer you can sail across the Vistula Lagoon to Frombork, Kadiny and Tolkmicko.
